N.C. A&T Receives Department of Energy Funding to Establish Climate Resiliency Center

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) has funded North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University’s proposal to establish the “Climate Resiliency Center (CRC) in Piedmont Triad of North Carolina.” The announcement is in conjunction with the first White House Summit on Building Climate Resilient Communities and various actions the administration is taking to address a changing climate.

A&T Alumna Selected for First Cohort of New USDA Fellowship

Kortni Blalock '23 was selected from among 100 applicants to receive a U.S. Department of Agriculture Foreign Agricultural Service (FAS) International Agricultural Fellowship. This fellowship is intended to support extraordinary individuals seeking FAS careers and increase diversity and excellence in the federal agency that works to improve export opportunities for U.S. producers.

A&T’s autonomous shuttles, unveiled last year with the university’s rural test track at Gateway North Campus, navigated a new track today: the real-world obstacles of the approximately one-mile ride from the Harold L. Clean Energy Training “National Model” Blows Past Year 1 Goals, Expands at A&T

STEPs4GROWTH (S4G) marked its first anniversary with an announcement that the program has graduated 113 students, significantly exceeding its first-year goal of 100. The program’s industry partners now number 45 and include such leading firms as Duke Energy and Siemens. Between them, those partners committed to providing 140 jobs, of which 105 have been filled thus far with program graduates.

University Galleries Hosts New Exhibition, “Flash Fiction”

The University Galleries at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University is hosting “Flash Fiction,” a new exhibition of collages from artist, Natalie Schorr. The exhibit features personal narratives of gender roles, psychological introspection and spiritual reflections. The opening reception is Thursday, Aug. 31. The exhibition will be on display through Oct. 13.

The Common Thread Theatre Collective, a joint venture between North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University and Davidson College, will present “How to Make an American Son,” a new play by Christopher Oscar Peña and directed by Holly Nañes. The hard-hitting drama explores what happens when the American Dream collides with the reality of immigration and family. Performances will begin Friday, July 14, at Barber Theatre on Davidson College’s campus.

Common Thread Theatre Collective Presents “Our Journey”

The Common Thread Theatre Collective, a joint venture between North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University and Davidson College, will present “Our Journey,” an interactive play for young audiences about self-discovery. The performance will be held at N.C. A&T’s Paul Robeson Theatre on Saturday, July 15 at 2 p.m. The performance is free and open to the public.

Three Cadets Chosen for Georgetown University’s Security Studies Summer Institute

N.C. A&T, LANL Study Optical Properties of Aerosols from African Biomass Fuel Burning

Research teams from North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University and Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) in New Mexico have initiated the first phases of the African Combustion Aerosol Collaborative Intercomparison Analysis (ACACIA) pilot study. The project titled “Studies of optical and chemical properties of aged and fresh biomass burning absorbing aerosols for climate models” is funded by the Department of Energy.

The powerhouse musical “Dreamgirls,” with book and lyrics by Tom Eyen and music by Henry Krieger, is one of the most celebrated American musicals of the 20th century. It is a sweeping and inspirational journey through American pop music that chronicles one Motown girl group’s rise from obscurity to superstardom. Inspired by the stories of R&B’s popular superstars, including The Supremes, James Brown, and the roster of artists that helped change the landscape of popular music in the 60s and 70s, “Dreamgirls” is a true depiction of the music business.

The R&D facility will be focused on Silicon Carbide to support the next generation of advanced compound semiconductors. Wolfspeed and A&T intend to submit the project for federal investment as part of the CHIPS and Science Act when the Notice of Funding Opportunity for R&D facilities is released this fall.

The goal of the lecture series is to discuss topics that “inspire students and faculty to build at the intersection of disruptive innovation and social justice.” The event will take place Thursday, March 2, at 6 p.m. in the Deese Ballroom of the A&T Student Center.

North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University’s Theatre Arts Program tackles one of Shakespeare’s most intimate family tragedies beginning Feb. 23. The full title of the play is “The Tragedy of Othello, the Moor of Venice,” written by William Shakespeare in 1603. The production is a rare example of a dramatic work by Shakespeare that remained popular in performance during the latter half of the 17th and 18th century and remains relevant today.

More than 80 attendees participated either virtually or in-person during the three-day workshop held at the Carnegie Mellon University Africa campus in Kigali, Rwanda.

N.C. A&T’s Uzochukwu Named EPA Science Advisory Board CASTNET Review Panel Chair

Godfrey A. Uzochukwu, Ph.D., a professor in the College of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University, was named chair of the Science Advisory Board (SAB) Clean Air Status and Trends Network (CASTNET) review panel. The network was established by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in 1991 “to assess the effectiveness of emission reductions programs by reporting trends in pollutant concentrations and acidic deposition.” As of 2021, CASTNET monitors 99 sites in the United States and Canada.
