A leader in transportation technology and autonomous research, North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University opened its rural test track and demonstrated its autonomous vehicles Tuesday, Nov. 1. One of the only rural tracks in the nation, the university unveiled a unique fleet of connected self-driving shuttles to be used for testing and developing advanced technologies for public transportation. Once testing is complete for the next phase, the vehicles will be cleared for deployment between the university’s campus and downtown Greensboro–allowing riders to experience leading autonomous innovation first-hand.

Bhattarai is the sole principal investigator on the grant titled, “Biodegradable Composite Nanofiber Meshes that Contain Degradable Metal Particulates.”

This past week, North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University’s Aggie Autonomous Auto (A3) team completed the four-year Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) AutoDrive Challenge in Mcity, Michigan. The C3E recognizes outstanding women leaders and accomplishments in clean energy for the goal of closing the gender gap and increasing the participation, leadership and success of women in clean energy fields. Seven out of 31 presenters were announced poster winners. For Wilson, this accomplishment confirms that whatever industry or educational path she pursues, she will excel.

The once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, which Mason shared with Jacqueline Godoy Mesquita, Ph.D., a professor of mathematics at the University of Brasília in Brazil, resulted in a humbling and well-deserved experience.

A team of undergraduate, graduate and faculty researchers in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University won a highly competitive $449,052 grant from the Department of the Navy’s HBCU/MI program to collaborate with the Navy on improving radio frequency (RF) communication systems. The research will use gallium nitride (GaN) device technology to create smaller and more efficient solid state-based RF amplifiers.

North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University joins IBM’s newly established collaboration today with 13 historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs) to equip students pursuing quantum computing careers. The IBM-HBCU Quantum Center is a multi-year investment, and A&T’s proven strengths in ground-breaking STEM research and academic rigor resulted in the university’s selection and designation as one of five HBCU leading quantum research centers in the partnership.

Stephanie Luster-Teasley, Ph.D., chair of the civil architectural and environmental engineering department at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University, received awards from the American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE) and Michigan State University (MSU), where she earned her M.S. in chemical engineering and Ph.D. in environmental engineering. Luster-Teasley, an N.C. &T alumna, won the ASEE Environmental Division Service Award and was recognized by MSU with the 2020 Civil and Environmental Engineering Distinguished Alumni Award.

Oluchi Chukwunyere, a rising senior studying computer science at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University, has been selected by the White House Initiative on Historically Black Colleges and Universities as a 2020 HBCU Competitiveness Scholar. Chukwunyere is among 44 students selected from 33 HBCUs nationwide to receive the initiative’s highest honor based on academic achievements, campus leadership, civic engagement and entrepreneurial spirit.
