Division of Legal Affairs and Compliance

Mission Statement

The mission of the Division of Legal Affairs and Compliance is to address the legal needs of the University by providing in-house legal analysis and information on all matters affecting the University.

The Division endeavors to address lawsuits, administrative agency complaints, internal administrative grievances, appeals, tort claims, business transactions, employment matters, student affairs issues, regulatory and statutory compliance issues. The Attorney General for the State of North Carolina represents institutions in litigation and they depend on the Division to serve as liaison by assisting in the handling of the University's litigation matters.

The Division also is responsible for receiving, responding to and adjudicating complaints related to the federal Title IX law, as well as compliance with the law in policy and operations. It is further responsible for the university's Internal Audit functions, which endeavor to assure appropriate expenditure and accounting for university funds, as well as compliance with all relative regulation and policy.
