EAST GREENSBORO, N.C. (July 15, 2026) – John D. White, chief North Carolina lobbyist, strategist and state manager of government relations for Enbridge Gas North Carolina, has been appointed to the North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University Board of Trustees (BOT).

White was appointed by N.C. Senate President Pro Tempore Phil Berger to fill the unexpired term of Trustee Mark Copeland. His appointment is effective immediately, through June 30, 2027.

A Greensboro, North Carolina, native, White leads Enbridge Gas North Carolina's public policy, government affairs, regulatory engagement and strategic community relations across the state. He brings more than two decades of executive leadership experience across the energy, economic development and public affairs sectors, and a reputation for building bipartisan partnerships, navigating complex regulatory environments and advancing policies that strengthen North Carolina’s communities and economy.

Before joining Enbridge Gas, White served as chief North Carolina lobbyist and manager of state and local affairs for Dominion Energy. His previous leadership positions include associate regional director for the Southeast Region of the American Petroleum Institute, legislative director for the North Carolina Department of Commerce and vice president of public policy for the Greater Durham Chamber of Commerce.

Enbridge is a North America-based leader in energy transportation and distribution. Its North Carolina operations serve 675,000 customers across 28 counties.

Throughout White’s career, he has led policy and advocacy initiatives supporting economic development, infrastructure investment and transportation, helping secure more than $1.2 billion in public investment for communities across North Carolina.

White serves as a gubernatorial appointee to the North Carolina Oil and Gas Commission and serves on the boards of the Carolinas Natural Gas Coalition, Research Triangle Regional Partnership and North Carolina Free Enterprise Foundation. He has also provided longstanding leadership to the North Carolina Legislative Black Caucus Foundation, helping raise more than $3 million in scholarship support for students attending North Carolina’s historically Black colleges and universities.

A graduate of North Carolina Central University, White earned a B.A. in political science with honors. He also has a strong connection to N.C. A&T as the son of alumni Eresterine Guidry White ‘74 and the late John D. White ‘70.

White will be officially sworn in Thursday, July 16 during the annual BOT summer retreat.

The A&T BOT is comprised of 13 individuals: eight elected by the University of North Carolina Board of Governors, four appointed by the North Carolina General Assembly and an ex officio (president of the A&T Student Government Association). The term of office of all trustees, except the ex officio member, is four years.

The board’s duties are to promote the sound development of the university and serve as advisor to the UNC Board of Governors on matters pertaining to the university, as well as to advise the chancellor concerning the management and development of the university.
