EAST GREENSBORO, N.C. (April 22, 2026) — The North Carolina A&T Real Estate Foundation, in partnership with Cone Health, today celebrated the ribbon cutting of The Resurgent, a transformative development designed to expand access to health care and economic opportunity in East Greensboro.
North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University Chancellor James R. Martin II, Greensboro Mayor Marikay Abuzuaiter and Paul Krakovitz, M.D., FACS, chief executive officer of Cone Health, were on hand for the celebration with about 250 guests.
The Resurgent is a 54,000-square-foot, five-story, mixed-use facility serving students, faculty and the surrounding community. Developed by the North Carolina A&T Real Estate Foundation in collaboration with Cone Health, the building integrates health care services with economic and entrepreneurial development. The project’s groundbreaking took place in April 2024.
The development was created in response to the growing need for accessible health care and sustained economic investment in East Greensboro. Funding partners include North Carolina A&T, Cone Health, the Innovate Fund, Partners for the Common Good, and Wells Fargo.
“This moment represents more than the opening of a building — it reflects a shared commitment to advancing health equity and economic mobility in East Greensboro,” said Sheena Jerman, interim North Carolina A&T Real Estate Foundation executive director. “The Resurgent stands as a model for what is possible when higher education, health care and community partners come together to invest intentionally in people and place. We are proud to create a space that will serve our community today while building pathways for opportunity for generations to come.”
Through its partnership with Cone Health, The Resurgent provides a centralized location for primary, urgent and women’s health care services. The facility is expected to serve more than 23,000 patients annually, including thousands who will receive low- or no-cost services.
The Resurgent directly addresses long-standing health disparities in East Greensboro, which has been identified as a medically underserved area. Limited access to care within a two-mile radius has historically resulted in extended travel times and fewer options for residents.
“When we remove barriers to care, address social determinants of health and build trusted, long-term relationships with patients, outcomes improve and costs go down,” said Krakovitz. “Investments like The Resurgent allow us to deliver care while ensuring no community is left behind.”
The Resurgent will provide a training environment for A&T nursing students, offering hands-on clinical experience while serving the community. The facility also will serve as a hub for innovation through A&T’s Center of Excellence in Entrepreneurship and Innovation, where students and community members can incubate ideas, launch ventures and grow businesses. The initiative is expected to support more than 20 startups and 300 entrepreneurs, generating more than $1.6 million in payroll and creating internship and employment opportunities for A&T students.
Additionally, The Resurgent houses the university’s Division of Human Resources, providing a centralized and modern location for employee onboarding and support services.
