EAST GREENSBORO, N.C. (Jan. 15, 2026) – North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University will celebrate the life of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. in two events next week.
The theme for each free, public event is “Mission Possible II: Building a Community, Uniting a Nation the Non-Violent Way.”
The annual Martin Luther King Jr. Oratory Contest will be Monday, Jan. 19, at 7 p.m. in Harrison Auditorium, 1009 Bluford St., Greensboro. N.C. A&T students will present original compositions to vie for a first-place prize of $500, second-place prize of $250 or third-place prize of $150.
An intercollegiate celebration will take place Thursday, Jan. 22, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on the campus of the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, 408 Tate St., Greensboro, NC 27403, at 6:30 p.m. in the UNCG Auditorium (College of Visual & Performing Arts).
For the past 13 years, this annual celebration of Dr. Martin L. King Jr. has been a collaborative effort of A&T, UNCG, Greensboro College, Guilford College and Guilford Technical Community College.
This year’s event will feature a student-led panel discussion of King’s legacy, a performance by A&T’s Fellowship Gospel Choir, reception and additional presentations.
