Parking & Transportation Services Implement Improvements Across Campus

EAST GREENSBORO, N.C. (Aug. 28, 2026) – North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University Parking & Transportation Services is implementing a series of improvements to increase parking availability, safety, communication and convenience for students, faculty, staff and visitors across Aggieland.

Effective Tuesday, Sept. 1, Parking & Transportation Services will adjust its office hours. The office will now open at 8 a.m., replacing the previous opening time of 7:30 a.m. This change aligns with operational needs while continuing to deliver excellent customer service.

Also Tuesday, Sept. 1, campus-wide compliance with the university’s License Plate Recognition (LPR) parking system will be reinforced. Parking permits are directly linked to vehicle license plates, eliminating the need for traditional hangtags. The LPR system streamlines parking operations, improves efficiency and supports N.C. A&T’s sustainability goals by reducing paper and plastic waste.

To avoid citations, all vehicles must display a license plate that is visible from the driving lane. Drivers whose states do not require a front license plate, such as North Carolina, must park so that their rear license plate is visible to enforcement cameras. Drivers without a front license plate cannot back into a parking space unless they have a front-mounted plate.

For those who prefer to back into parking spaces, a custom front license plate is available for purchase online through Parking & Transportation Services for $12. To order a front license plate, visit NCAT Parking Portal, sign in, select “Get Permits” and scroll down to choose “Fax Plate/Front License Plate.” Once the plate is ready, Parking & Transportation Services will contact the purchaser for pickup.

During late spring and early summer, the World War Memorial Stadium Lot (Lot 65), also known as the Park and Ride Lot, underwent significant upgrades. Improvements included restriping, increased parking capacity and enhanced organization, creating a more efficient experience for permit holders.

These upgrades are part of a broader campus initiative to improve parking facilities. Seven parking lots, including those near the Alumni-Foundation Event Center and the Alvin V. Blount Jr. Student Health Center, have already been enhanced. Additional lots will be restriped in phases throughout the academic year to further improve parking access across campus.

Parking capacity has also expanded with the opening of Bluford Residence Hall Lots 50 and 51, offering additional options for all campus users.

The City of Greensboro, which owns and manages Sullivan Street east of Lindsay Street and Benbow Road, has introduced a two-hour parking limit along this corridor. This change is designed to provide convenient, short-term parking for students attending classes and to help ensure spaces remain available throughout the day.

To improve safety, parking spaces previously located along Benbow Road across from Proctor Hall and Blount Student Health Center have been relocated, as the roadway was not sufficiently wide to safely accommodate parked vehicles. To offset this change and maintain accessibility, additional spaces have been added on Bluford and Luther streets adjacent to Blount Student Health Center.

Parking & Transportation Services has expanded its communication efforts through new mobile and digital signage, providing timely updates about lot closures, permit reminders and transportation news. Students, faculty and staff are also encouraged to use the NCAT Park app for easy access to parking information, maps and real-time updates.
