EAST GREENSBORO, N.C. (June 19, 2025) – “Our Blues Make Us Gold,” the acclaimed film about North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University, debuted on Prime Video in the United States on Juneteenth, the annual June commemoration of the day in 1865 when the last enslaved Americans were freed.
“We are so grateful that many new viewers will be able to see our love letter to the nation’s largest and leading historically Black university,” said Brandon Gerard, who co-directed the film with Ashley Shanté. “This film is a story of perseverance and triumph, of challenges and achievement, told through the words of Aggies who trace their success back to the education they received and experiences they had at North Carolina A&T.
“We believe it will connect with new viewers as strongly as it already has with other audiences.”
This is the latest achievement for the film, which was completed in 2024 with financial support from Comcast’s Black Experience on Xfinity. In addition to subsequently streaming on Xfinity, the film recently embarked on a four-city theatrical tour. Hundreds packed the Carolina Theatre on June 7 for two screenings, and viewers in Atlanta, Charlotte and Durham will see it in those cities later this month and in July.
The film features appearances by the Rev. Al Sharpton, actor David Banner, A&T alumnae global employment agency entrepreneur Janice Bryant Howroyd and groundbreaking television news anchor Sandra Hughes, NBA star Chris Paul, former first lady Michelle Obama and memorable stories from numerous alumni.
The film is available now on Prime Video and included with a Prime membership.
