North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University will remain under Condition 2 until noon on Friday, Feb. 19, and then return to normal operations for the remainder of Friday. All classes for Friday morning are cancelled, and North Carolina A&T will be open only for mandatory operations, with only mandatory employees required to report to or remain at work, until Friday at noon.
A winter storm that continues to move across North Carolina caused icy road conditions and knocked out power to thousands of homes in the Greensboro area overnight and this morning. More than 8,000 Piedmont Triad homes remained without power as of 5 p.m. this afternoon, according to the North Carolina Department of Safety. A state of emergency declared by Gov. Roy Cooper remains in effect until 7 a.m. Friday.
With additional freezing rain expected tonight and into tomorrow morning, university emergency management leaders want to provide enough time for temperatures to rise and road ice to melt before bringing students and employees back to campus.
If you will be traveling to campus Friday afternoon, please exercise caution and be aware of the possibility of difficult-to-see black ice, particular in rural areas, that can create hazardous road conditions.
