N.C. A&T Names Wabomnor Associate Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs, Dean of Students

EAST GREENSBORO, N.C. (July 22, 2026) – A higher education leader with extensive experience advancing student safety, support, wellbeing and success has been appointed associate vice chancellor for Student Affairs and dean of students at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University, following a competitive national search, Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs Christopher C. Catching, Ed.D., announced today.

Ronald Wabomnor, Ed.D., currently serves as dean of students at Florida International University (FIU), a public, metropolitan Research 1 institution enrolling more than 55,000 students and recognized nationally as a leader in social mobility. As dean of students, Wabomnor provides strategic leadership for student support, student conduct, student safety and campus-wide crisis management operations. He will begin his new role at N.C. A&T on Aug. 17.

 “Dr. Wabomnor’s experience leading strategies that support student wellbeing, community development and student success makes him exceptionally qualified to serve as the university’s next associate vice chancellor for Student Affairs and dean of students,” said Catching. “His demonstrated ability to build student support systems, cultivate partnerships and lead critical operations at large, highly residential institutions will help strengthen N.C. A&T’s efforts to support student wellbeing, safety and success. We are excited to welcome him to the Aggie family.”

At A&T, Wabomnor will serve as the vice chancellor for Student Affairs’ chief advisor and as senior liaison to campus and community partners on matters related to student conduct, student support and student safety. He will lead a reimagined Office of the Dean of Students to educate students regarding their rights and responsibilities as Aggies, provide coordinated support for students facing challenges, strengthen engagement with parents and families and respond to complex student issues in collaboration with campus partners.

Prior to joining FIU in 2024, Wabomnor advanced through a series of leadership roles at the University of Miami, a private Research 1 institution of 20,000 students, beginning in 2016. His positions included director of Residential Life, director of COVID-19 Operations and assistant director of Safety and Security.

He began his higher education career as a resident director at the University of Maryland, College Park, a public Research 1 land-grant institution.

Wabomnor earned a B.A. in sociology from Eastern Illinois University, an MPA from the University of Southern Indiana and Ed.D. in leadership and professional practice from Trevecca Nazarene University. His professional affiliations include Southeastern Association of Housing Officers Regional Level Entry Institute, Florida Housing Officers, Association for Student Conduct Administration, Higher Education Case Managers Association, National Association of Student Personnel Administrators Association, and the International Association of Campus Law Enforcement Officers.

He also has served as a youth facilitator for the Aspen Institute and advisor for the Higher Education Graduate Student Association, among many other professional committees and organizations.

Wabomnor is the latest hire in a university-wide refresh of A&T’s administrative leadership under Chancellor James R. Martin II. Over the past 1 ½ years, Martin has hired a new provost, re-filled virtually every Cabinet position and brought in numerous new associate and assistant vice chancellors and directors, as well as four new deans.
