
“Our Blues Make Us Gold” Chosen for Martha’s Vineyard African American Film Festival

EAST GREENSBORO, N.C. (July 11, 2025) – Janice Bryant Howroyd, North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University alumna and trailblazing entrepreneur, has been inducted as an Honorary Member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. She was honored at the sorority’s 57th National Convention along with seven other distinguished leaders and trailblazers spanning across multiple industries.
Howroyd, the founder and CEO of ActOne Group, a global workforce and solutions enterprise, is the first African American woman to build and operate a billion-dollar company. Through the Tarboro, North Carolina, native’s innovative vision, ActOne offers employment, workforce management and procurement solutions across multiple markets in more than 52 languages. Operating in more than 33 countries, ActOne is the largest privately-held woman- and minority-owned workforce management company in the U.S.
Howroyd’s industry expertise and innovative tech and business solutions make her one of the most highly-sought out panelists and speakers. Her subject matter includes economic inclusion, personal and professional development, and entrepreneurship in a tech-fueled economy. She is the best-selling author of two books: “Acting Up: Winning in Business and Life Using Down-Home Wisdom” and “The Art of Work – How to Make Work, Work for You.”
One of N.C. A&T’s most supportive alumnae, Howroyd is a catalyst for philanthropic and educational empowerment, committed to innovation, equity and advocacy. She chairs the Women’s Leadership Board at the Harvard Kennedy School of Government and was appointed to serve on former president Barack Obama’s Presidential Board of Advisors on Historically Black Colleges and Universities in 2026. She also served on the Federal Communications Commission’s Advisory Committee on Diversity and Digital Empowerment, and International Trade Advisory Committee.
Howroyd’s accolades include receiving the prestigious Ellis Island Medal of Honor and being named Black Enterprise’s Woman of the Year, recognizing her exceptional leadership and impact.
Living by her motto, “Never compromise who you are personally to become who you wish to be professionally,” Howroyd leverages her influence to foster meaningful connections and inspire innovation.
“This year’s class of Honorary Members represents a powerhouse group of barrier-breaking women across politics, entertainment, business, sports, and social impact,” said Elsie Cooke-Holmes, international president of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.
Howroyd is joined in her honorary induction by Donna Brazile, Danielle Brooks, Dana Owens (Queen Latifah), Fawn Weaver, Jackie Joyner-Kersee, Swintayla “Swin” Cash and Toni Townes-Whitley.
