EAST GREENSBORO, N.C. (March 2, 2026) – An accomplished academic leader with more than 31 years of wide-ranging experience in higher education administration at multiple Research 1 universities has been named provost and executive vice chancellor for Academic Affairs at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University, Chancellor James R. Martin II announced this morning.
Andrew P. Daire, Ph.D., will join the nation’s largest historically Black university from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, an R1 institution he has served as provost and vice chancellor for Academic Affairs since June 2023. He assumes his new role May 9.
As North Carolina A&T’s chief academic officer, Daire will oversee all academic operations, including campus-wide administration of colleges, schools and instruction as well as enrollment management. His appointment comes at a pivotal time for A&T as it continues to strengthen its position as a leading research institution poised to attain the Carnegie Classifications’ R1 designation.
“Dr. Daire is a decisive, data-driven and inclusive leader with a proven track record of championing student success and research excellence,” said Martin. “His experience at multiple top-tier institutions and his commitment to community engagement make him the ideal leader to advance our academic mission.”
“I am honored to join North Carolina A&T, a university with such a rich history of excellence and a clear vision for the future,” said Daire. “I look forward to working with faculty, staff and students to build on the university’s momentum and ensure that every Aggie has the support they need to succeed.”
A Record of Research and Leadership
Daire brings more than three decades of administrative success to his new role. During his tenure in Milwaukee, he managed an annual budget of approximately $315 million for the Division of Academic Affairs and provided leadership for 209 undergraduate, master’s and doctoral degree programs.
Prior to Milwaukee, Daire worked at three other R1 institutions. He served as dean of the School of Education at Virginia Commonwealth University, where he led the school to national ranking prominence. He also served as associate dean for Research at the University of Houston’s College of Education and co-founded the Marriage and Family Research Institute at the University of Central Florida, one of America’s largest national universities.
A recognized scholar in his own right, Daire has secured more than $16 million in external funding for research focused on family stability, economic mobility and STEM recruitment and retention. A prolific principal investigator, he has published peer-reviewed work in more than 80 professional journals, including leading national and international publications, and authored numerous book chapters, scholarly reports and research briefs.
Daire earned a B.S. in biology and an M.S. in mental health counseling from Stetson University and holds a Ph.D. in counseling psychology and school psychology from Florida State University.
