EAST GREENSBORO, N.C. (April 30, 2025) – North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University is now a certified Family Forward Employer, joining more than 80 such corporations and small businesses in the Greensboro, North Carolina community who have met the certification qualifications that help ensure family comes first, even at work.
The Family Forward NC certification recognizes companies that go above and beyond to provide family-friendly policies and practices that include flexible work arrangements, parental leave policies, childcare support or subsidies, wellness programs, health benefits and tuition assistance programs.
N.C. A&T is part of a collaboration between Action Greensboro, the Greensboro Chamber of Commerce and Family Forward NC to help earn the state’s first designation as a Family Forward North Carolina Certified Community.
“As a major employer and invested member of the Greensboro community, it’s important that N.C. A&T serve as a model for other employers about what it means to be a family-first, family-forward employer,” said Veronica L. Sills, Ed.D., associate vice chancellor of Human Resources and chief human resources officer at A&T. “We have lactation rooms, child care facilities and flexible leave options to help support growing families. And we are also fostering a culture that will encourage the best and brightest to bring their talents to our organization and make Greensboro their home.”
Family Forward Certified Employers receive access to exclusive programming to support their continued journey toward becoming family-friendly workplaces, along with marketing materials to help them promote their certification and an employee assessment of current policies and practices. Certified employers are also listed as part of the online Family Forward NC Employer Directory.
Civic and business leaders gathered for a celebration event to honor the efforts that made this milestone possible on April 24 at the Miriam P. Brenner Children’s Museum. A Future Ready Greensboro Community Celebration welcomed the Greensboro community at large to LeBauer Park on April 25 to celebrate the achievement with music, food, family-friendly activities and community spirit.
Action Greensboro, together with the chamber, serves as the city’s primary economic and community development group. Formed in 2001, Action Greensboro is comprised of eight local charitable foundations. In collaboration with business, higher education and municipal government, it works to strengthen Greensboro’s economy and ensure the continuation of its excellent quality of life.
Family Forward NC improves children’s health and well-being and keeps North Carolina’s businesses competitive by inspiring employer-led change to increase access to research-based, family-friendly practices — big and small — that improve workplace productivity, recruitment and retention; grow a strong economy; and support children’s healthy development. To date, Family Forward NC has engaged with more than 9,500 employers across North Carolina.
