North Carolina A&T State University provides a competitive benefits package for eligible full-time and part-time employees. To ensure a seamless and efficient orientation, we highly recommend that you review your benefits by visiting the provided links and videos below in advance, and come prepared to make your selections at the orientation.

Here are a few of the changes included in this year's N.C. State Health Plan:

  • No premium increases for the 3rd year in a row!
  • Members who select a Clear Pricing Project Provider as their Primary Care Provider will enjoy a $0 copay!
  • Reduced copays for members who visit a Clear Pricing Project Specialist!
  • Preferred and non-preferred insulin will have a $0 copay for a 30-day supply!
  • If you are enrolled for health coverage under the State Health Plan, you and your eligible dependents will be automatically enrolled in the 70/30 Plan for 2021. If you want to enroll in the 80/20 Plan, you must actively enroll during the Open Enrollment period between Oct. 15-31, 2020.
  • To reduce your monthly premium by $60 under the 70/30 Plan or 80/20 Plan, you MUST complete the tobacco attestation by Oct. 31, 2020 during open enrollment. If you attest you are a tobacco user and agree to a FREE tobacco cessation session, you must fulfill that visit at a CVS MinuteClinic OR a Primary Care Provider by Nov. 30, 2020.

  • Dental Plan Rates will be Lower in 2021

    • Starting Jan. 1, 2021, dental plan rates will decrease for all three Dental Plan options: Low, Classic and
      High plans. Be sure to review the Dental Plans to choose coverage that’s right for you and your family.

    Remember to Re-enroll in the FSAs

    • Each year you must re-enroll in the Health Care and/or Dependent Day Care Flexible Spending Accounts (FSAs) to make contributions in the upcoming plan year. If you do not re-enroll, your current contributions end on Dec. 31, 2020.
    • If you participated in the Health Care FSA in 2020, up to $550 of the unused account balance from 2020 will roll over to pay eligible expenses in 2021. If you do not re-enroll in the FSA for 2021, you cannot make new contributions, but you may still use these rollover funds. 
    • The new yearly amount for the Health Care FSA for 2021 is $2,750.

    No EOI Required for Cancer and Specified Disease Coverage

    • For 2021, you can enroll in or increase Cancer and Specified Disease Insurance without having to provide Evidence of Insurability (EOI). 

  • The State Health Plan at www.shpnc.org has information about your health benefits.
  • NCFlex Plans at www.ncflex.org has information about your NCFlex benefits.

Medical plan changes are made through the State Retirement System’s ORBIT portal for members receiving retirement benefits from the UNC Optional Retirement Program (ORP) or Teachers’ and State Employees’ Retirement System (TSERS). Or you may call 1-855-859-0966 for telephone assistance.

If you are faculty participating in the Phased Retirement Program, NCFlex benefit plan changes are made online HERE and medical plan changes are made through the State Retirement System’s ORBIT portal.

  • Provide the State Health Plan Required Dependent Verification Documentation for any dependents you add to coverage.  
  • Check to ensure any other covered dependents (spouse and/or children) are still listed as verified in the eBenefits system.
  • Verify the social security number for each of your covered dependents.
  • Review/update your beneficiaries (Group Term Life, Cancer, Critical Issues, and AD&D plans)
