Gear UP For Success

NC A&T is one of the eight North Carolina colleges and community colleges chosen for the GEAR UP program. It is a college access initiative funded through the U.S. Department of Education. GEAR UP stands for Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs.

Through the program, a Success Coach partners with students from 36 select high schools and assists them with preparing for college, and guides them as they strive to reach college goals by providing one on one coaching sessions. The GEAR UP program serves first generation college students who have never taken college level courses.

Our goal is to help students with their overall success here at NC A&T whether academically or socially. If you were a GEAR UP student in high school, then great! Your transition should be smooth and we offer the same guidance to which you have been accustomed. If you weren't’t a GEAR UP student, we look forward to meeting you and introducing you to the wonderful world of mentorship.
