Currently Offered Mental Health Presentation Topics

Select from the following topics when requesting a counselor to present on mental health.

Counseling Services Overview

This brief presentation provides students with an overview of our services, the process of initiating services, and additional mental health resources available to them. This topic can be requested as a standalone presentation or included with other topics.

Stress Management and Self-care

College life can be stressful, with challenges such as maintaining a work-life balance, performing well academically, navigating a personal life away from home, and managing daily responsibilities. This presentation addresses stress management and self-care by describing stress symptoms, discussing various forms of stress experienced by university students, and exploring evidence-based practices for managing stress and preventing long-term chronic stress.

Healthy Boundaries and Healthy Relationships

Relationships come in many forms: family, friends, romantic, professional, and more. They are often complex, leading to mixed signals, conflict, increased stress, and sometimes physical or emotional harm. This presentation helps students understand the difference between healthy and unhealthy relationships, the importance of setting boundaries to promote healthy interactions, and how to communicate these boundaries in effective and healthy ways.

Coping with Anxiety and/or Depression

Anxiety and depression are some of the the most commonly reported presenting mental health concerns among university students. But what is anxiety? What does depression actually look like? This presentation addresses these questions by breaking down common symptoms, highlighting the relationship between anxiety and depression, recognizing signs in others, and offering basic strategies for managing these concerns. Our goal is to dispel misinformation about anxiety and depression, providing students with up-to-date knowledge and tangible skills to address these common mental health issues.

Adjusting to Life Transitions

University life involves many transitions: leaving home, adapting to academic rigor, changing majors, and moving from graduation to either a post-graduate education program or the workforce. Additionally, students may experience unexpected life events such as the death of a family member or close friend, drifting away from old friends, or experiencing a car crash. This presentation helps students explore their own life transitions and provides them with concrete skills to cope with the mental health symptoms that may arise during these times.
