“Leading with Service – Motivating through Words and Ideas”
Directed by James Daniels, M.F.A., this dynamic concentration offers two tracks—Fiction and Poetry—with additional coursework in screenwriting, spoken word, and creative nonfiction. At the heart of our program is an emphasis on African American, African, and Diasporic voices.
Creative Writing students are encouraged to:
- Perform in the SpiritSpeak Open Mic Series
- Publish in the department’s journal, Encore
- Join the Poetic Insurgents spoken word troupe
- Attend craft workshops and creative salons
- Participate in the Aggies Create Literary Festival
- Compete in the NC HBCU Literary Network Competition
- Be recognized as Aggie Poet Laureate or Poet of the Month
