Application for Graduate Assistantship
(TAs and RAs) 

Assistantship Appointment Eligibility

To be eligible for assistantships, graduate students must :

  • Maintain at least a 3.0 grade point avg. or higher as specified.
  • Satisfy enrollment requirements (9 hours or more per semester ) during academic year.
  • Make satisfactory progress toward degree as defined by academic department and graduate school.
  • Meet requirement to be eligible for employment at N.C. A&T.
  • Maintain good academic standing.
  • Undergo training appropriate to assigned tasks.

Teaching Assistantships generally entail teaching of lower level courses or grading homework assignments. Duties may also include tutoring or holding problem sessions for students or conducting laboratory experiments or related duties for approximately 10 to 20 hours per week for the duration of the assistantship period. The assistant is expected to possess (1) the necessary proficiency with subject matter; (2) suitable oral and written English communication skills; and (3) the willingness and dedication in the opinion of his or her supervisor to adequately perform the specific duties of any offer.

Research Assistants assist faculty in carrying out specific research agenda or other research related duties. Typical responsibilities may include: conducting literature reviews; data collection; related grant writing tasks; submission to grant agencies and foundations; managing and responding to project-related emails; preparing, maintaining and updating website materials (if applicable); preparing progress reports for the PI and funding agency (if applicable); preparing articles, reports, presentations or other documents related to task. Note: Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned by individual faculty researchers.
