Produce Safety

Eating healthy can be a challenge, and this challenge is complicated by the fact that minorities, the elderly, and low-income families often lack access to healthy and affordable food alternatives. Extension develops and delivers educational programs that strengthen local food systems so that limited-resource populations have easier access to food that is healthy, safe, and affordable. We also teach farmers best practices to ensure the food they produce is free of disease and contaminants and that animals are raised in ways that are healthy and humane. The ultimate goal of these programs is to strengthen local food systems so that all communities have access to healthy, affordable foods.
