College Success-FRST 101

College Success (FRST-101) is a one credit hour, skills-based course designed to help students transition finto NC A&T State University. It emphasizes academic, personal, and professional development through exposure to university resources, policies, and success strategies. This course introduces first-year students to the academic expectations, and resources, and promotes self-awareness, goal setting, and a balanced college experience within the Aggie Community.

General Education Learning Outcome:
Students will develop skills that promote personal and academic success.

  Upon successful completion of this course, students will:

  1. Apply proven college success strategies (time management, goal setting, study skills, help-seeking behaviors) to achieve academic success.
  2. Demonstrate knowledge of NC A&T resources, policies, and support systems.
  3. Demonstrate growth mindset, resilience, and self-authorship in navigating academic and personal challenges.
  4. Develop a personalized academic success plan using SMART goals that are aligned with degree requirements and career goals.
  5. Identify career interests and connect them to academic pathways.
  6. Understand importance of a professional brand and create a Handshake and LinkedIn profile aligned with career goals.
  7. Demonstrate professional communication, workplace expectations, and digital professionalism.
  8. Demonstrate financial literacy by understanding and creating a personal budget.
  9. Understand the purpose and benefits of undergraduate research.
