Immediately route the documents to the Office of Legal Affairs or email them to legal@ncat.edu. Please provide both the front and back pages of any documents, including the Summons and Complaint, and save a copy of the envelope the documents came in. Please call 336-334-7592 to confirm that the Office of Legal Affairs received your transmission.

NOTE: Do not accept service on behalf of the university. Only the Vice Chancellor for Legal Affairs, Risk, and Compliance and General Counsel is authorized to Accept Service of Process on behalf of North Carolina A&T State University.

Subpoenas

A subpoena is a formal, written legal order commanding a person to appear in court to testify or to produce documents, records, or other tangible evidence. Failure to comply with a properly issued subpoena can result in contempt of court, fines, or jail time.

Subpoenas are sometimes sent or delivered to campus offices or employees for court cases in North Carolina or another state. Any employee served with a subpoena should note the date and time of receipt or service and whether the service was in person, or by mail, email, or fax. Note also the date on which the person has been ordered to appear in court or when information is required to be produced. Immediately contact the Office of Legal Affairs and provide the subpoena by email to legal@ncat.edu. Please provide both the front and back pages of any documents, including the subpoena itself, the envelope the subpoena came in, or a copy of the back and front of the envelope. Please call 336-334-7592 to confirm that the Office of Legal Affairs received your transmission of the subpoena.
