Office of Legal Affairs
The Office of Legal Affairs provides comprehensive legal advice to N.C. A&T’s administrators, including the Board of Trustees, Chancellor, and other senior administrators, and through them, the University’s faculty and staff, on a wide range of legal matters and issues involving or affecting the University.
The OLA advises University leaders on compliance with federal and state laws and regulations, UNC System and N.C. A&T policies, and the legal implications of proposed initiatives, issues, policies, and actions. The OLA drafts and reviews University contracts and other legal documents and is also available to provide educational services, including training programs on legal and policy matters, for any University constituency.
The OLA is responsible for selecting, engaging, and supervising any outside counsel engaged by the University, and coordinates all litigation conducted by the North Carolina Attorney General’s Office on behalf of the University. No attorneys other than those in the OLA, outside counsel engaged by OLA, the UNC System Office, or the NC Attorney General’s Office are authorized to provide legal advice to the University.
The Vice Chancellor Legal Affairs, Risk, and Compliance and General Counsel is N.C. A&T’s official process agent for service of process, upon whom court papers (including legal summons and complaints) should be served.
The Office of Legal Affairs does not advise administrators, faculty, staff, or students on personal legal matters.
