Bio

Kesa C. Jessup is a Student Engagement Strategist with more than a decade of experience driving student success by supporting students holistically in both university and community college settings. She began her career in academia as a student financial aid counselor, advising students on the financial aid resources available to them and building close relationships with deans and faculty. Her experience expanded to academic and student service program review, academic advising, online learning, student retention, and nearly a decade in the classroom teaching a variety of history courses to community college and university students in traditional and online learning environments. Jessup earned her undergraduate and graduate degrees in History with minors in English Composition from North Carolina Central University and earned her Education Specialist credential in Higher Education Administration from Appalachian State University.

Research Interests

Her professional interests include student support programming, student engagement technology, financial literacy, data analysis, and student development theory. Her academic areas of interest include desegregation of educational institutions (K-12), building community in online/hybrid courses, oral histories and narratives, infusing primary sources into history coursework, African American women, and achievement gaps in post-secondary education.
