Dr. Sowells held positions at U.S. Department of Energy, Division of Research and College of Engineering at NCAT. She has numerous peer reviewed journal and conference publications. Her recent book, “Low Power Self-Timed Size Optimization for an Input Data Distribution” explores innovative techniques to reduce power consumption for portable electronic devices. She was awarded the 2016 Chair’s award for Outstanding Junior Researcher and is a NSF ADVANCE IT faculty Scholar. She is the lead investigator of the Females in Technology (FiT) summer boot camp for academically gifted low income students.

Research Interests

My primary research interests lie in the area of is low-power high performance digital systems design, asynchronous design and self-timed digital system design. The particular focus of my research is the development of power-aware algorithms and techniques for system timing optimization. The results of this research are extremely useful for applications involving mobile systems. Other applications benefiting from this sort of work include: power and energy efficiency, power management, high performance computing and computational science.
