University Police - Property and Evidence

The North Carolina A&T State University Police Department’s Property and Evidence Unit is responsible for the secure intake, documentation, storage, preservation, and release of evidence and found property. This unit also provides fingerprinting services to N.C. A&T students, faculty, and staff.

This unit plays a critical role in maintaining the integrity of criminal investigations and safeguarding personal property entrusted to the department.

Core Responsibilities

The Property and Evidence Unit ensures that all evidence collected by officers is properly logged, securely stored, and maintained in accordance with legal standards and departmental policy. Strict chain-of-custody procedures are followed to preserve the integrity of evidence for court proceedings and investigative purposes.

Please note that property being held as part of an active investigation or pending court action may not be immediately eligible for release.

If you have lost an item on campus, we encourage you to first check the last location where you believe the item may have been left. In many cases, lost property is turned in to building staff, residence life personnel, or campus offices before being submitted to University Police.

If you have found property and would like to turn it in, please contact the University Police Department for guidance or bring the item to our office. Our team will properly document and secure the item in accordance with established procedures.

If you believe the University Police Department may be holding your lost property, please contact us to arrange verification and potential release. Proper identification and proof of ownership may be required.

Individuals seeking to retrieve property may do so Monday through Friday, between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., excluding university holidays and official campus closings. We encourage individuals to call ahead to confirm availability and ensure the property is ready for release.

Fingerprinting is conducted Wednesdays and Fridays between 9:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m., by appointment only.

Appointments must be scheduled in advance to ensure availability and proper documentation. Individuals should bring a valid government-issued photo ID and any required fingerprinting forms at the time of their appointment.

Please contact the Police Department to schedule an appointment or to obtain additional information regarding fingerprinting services.
