University Police - Community Affairs

The Community Affairs Unit of the North Carolina A&T State University Department of Public SafetyPolice Department is dedicated to building meaningful partnerships and fostering a safe, welcoming campus environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors.

Grounded in a community-oriented policing philosophy, the unit works proactively to strengthen relationships, enhance trust, and support shared responsibility for campus safety.

 

Core Functions

The Community Affairs Unit is responsible for:
  • Working collaboratively with university departments, student organizations, residence life, and local partners to address quality-of-life and safety concerns
  • Developing and delivering community education programs focused on crime prevention, personal safety, victim awareness, and emergency preparedness
  • Planning and participating in campus engagement events, outreach initiatives, and public safety awareness campaigns
  • Facilitating proactive crime prevention strategies and problem-solving efforts
  • Coordinating with Patrol, Investigations, and campus partners to address emerging crime trends or targeted safety concerns
  • Conducting outreach and visibility initiatives designed to enhance approachability and accessibility of police officers
  • Supporting traffic safety education initiatives related to impaired driving, distracted driving, seatbelt use, speeding, pedestrian safety, and bicycle safety
  • Overseeing safety programs such as bicycle registration, safety workshops, and other prevention-focused initiatives

 

Education & Outreach

The Community Affairs Unit offers a comprehensive selection of educational programs available to student groups, residence halls, faculty, and staff at no cost. These programs are designed to inform, engage, and empower members of the Aggie community to make safe and responsible decisions.

Student organizations and campus units interested in scheduling a safety presentation or educational program may submit a Community Education Program Request Form.

 

A Shared Responsibility

While Community Affairs officers coordinate outreach and engagement efforts, community policing is a department-wide philosophy. Every member of the N.C. A&T Police Department plays a role in fostering positive relationships and maintaining a campus environment where everyone can learn, work, and thrive.
