I Need Translation/Interpretation Services

Making sure you are understood, whether you are talking or sharing printed documents and materials, is a key to effective communication. To help, North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University Cooperative Extension provides free translation and interpretation services for Cooperative Extension programs.

These services are coordinated by Lauren Hargrave, Ph.D., program evaluation and accountability coordinator. She can be reached at Ldhargra@ncat.edu or by calling 336-334-7956.

Follow these steps if you need a translation.

  • When you complete the Ag. Communications program planner, note under the “How Can We Help” section that you need translation services and what language is needed. Make sure you make your request at least 30 working days in advance of your deadline.
  • Communications will contract with an external vendor to translate your project and ensure that images and graphics align with the original copy.
  • Communications will give you two final versions of your document – one in English and the other in the requested language.

  • If you have a bilingual staff member or volunteer who can assist, please work with them for translations.
  • If you can’t find help locally, contact the program evaluation and accountability coordinator at least 30 business days before your deadline. Make sure you indicate the language you need.
  • Once you’ve contacted the coordinator, provide a copy of the document that needs translation. Make sure it’s final because you won’t be able to make additional changes.
  • The coordinator will contract with a vendor to handle your request.
  • Once the project is translated, you cannot make any additional changes.
  • You will be provided with a final translated copy of your materials.

  • If you are hosting an event and have a bilingual staff member or volunteer who can assist, please work with them.
  • If you can’t find help locally or on campus, contact the program evaluation and accountability coordinator at least 10 days before your event for help.
  • The coordinator will locate and contact a vendor and share that information with you.
  • Telephone interpretation services are also available for one-on-one communication. Check the “I Speak” poster in your office or click the link to find an interpreter.

Translation and Interpretation language options can also be found on the N.C. A&T Extension webpage.
