Apply as an Incoming First-Year Student

Are you a current high school student pursuing first-year admission at North Carolina A&T State University? Applicants should first apply to NC A&T and then submit the First-Year honors application through the Honors Program Portal.

Note: Applications for students enrolling Fall 2022 will open August 15, 2021.

Application Deadlines

  • Priority Application Date: 11:59pm EST on November 15, 2021. Students who apply by the priority date will be considered for the University Honors Program and our full-ride scholarship programs.
  • Final Application Date: 11:59pm EST on February 1, 2022. Students who apply after November 15, 2021 but by the final application date will be considered for the University Honors Program only. Other scholarship opportunities may be available through Academic Colleges or the Office of Financial Aid & Scholarships.

Apply as a Transfer or Current NC A&T Student

Are you an incoming transfer student or currently enrolled at North Carolina A&T State University? Submit your Current-Transfer honors application through the Honors Program Portal. Transfer students should apply to NC A&T prior to submitting an application to the Honors Program.

Note: The Honors Program is not currently accepting or reviewing applications for enrollment into the Fall 2021 semester. Applications for students enrolling Spring 2022 will open October 15, 2021.

Application Deadlines

  • If you are applying to the Honors Program for the Spring of 2022, applications will be available on October 15 and the deadline to apply is 11:59pm EST on December 15, 2021.
  • If you are applying to the Honors Program for the Fall of 2022, applications will be available March 15 the deadline to apply is 11:59pm EST on May 15, 2022.

Criteria and Characteristics of a Successful Application

The University Honors Program requires a minimum (weighted) cumulative 3.75 GPA. Applications for Fall 2022 enrollment will not consider the ACT/SAT in entry into the honors program, however applicants will be reviewed holistically to include a completed application, essays, transcript evaluation, extracurricular involvement, letters of recommendation, and interview (if applicable). Applicants might consider the following characteristics when choosing to apply:

  • A successful applicant typically will have earned mostly "A"s in core courses and will have chosen a challenging and/or meaningful course of study as allowed by their high school's curriculum.
  • Most enrolled first-year honors students ranked in the top percentage of their high school graduating class.
  • Students' responses to the essay prompt and activities lists will play an important role in the selection.
  • Letters of recommendation that can highlight distinctive character, profound leadership, or impactful service.
  • Interest in challenging course work, undergraduate research, or international experiences.

The University Honors Program requires a minimum cumulative 3.50 GPA. Applicants will be reviewed holistically to include a completed application, essays, transcript evaluation, leadership and service. Applicants might consider the following characteristics when choosing to apply:

  • Students' responses to the essay prompt will play a very important role in the selection.
  • Application should highlight distinctive character, profound leadership, or impactful service.
  • Interest in challenging course work, undergraduate research, or international experiences.
