Bio

Dr. Kathy Cousins-Cooper is a Professor in the Department of Mathematics & Statistics. She also serves as Undergraduate Coordinator for Secondary Education (Mathematics) and Course Coordinator for MATH 101, 102, 103, and 104.
Dr. Cousins-Cooper earned a B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering from Virginia Tech, a M.S. degree in Mathematics Education from N.C. A&T State University, a Ph.D. in Mathematics Education from the University of South Florida, and a J.D. from N.C. Central University School of Law. Dr. Cousins-Cooper was selected as Teacher of the Year for 2014-15 academic year.
Dr. Cousins-Cooper is married and has two children.

Research Interests

Dr. Kathy Cousins-Cooper's primary research area is in the field of mathematics education and more specifically, she conducts research in the area of analyzing the effect of various instructional models on student performance in college algebra. In addition, she is interested in other factors that affect students' performance in mathematics from diverse populations. Dr. Cousins-Cooper is also interested in investigating how to improve the mathematical performance of historically underrepresented groups.
