This Week in COVID: Jan. 15 – 21, 2022

With students now back in residence halls for the Spring Semester and classes well underway, the number of employees and students seeking COVID testing on campus has dropped, along with the number of individuals testing positive.

While we all like to see infection numbers moving downward, it’s important that spread of the virus not be masked through lack of testing. If you are experiencing symptoms consistent with COVID or feel you may have been exposed to someone with coronavirus, please make it your business to get tested right away.

Testing is easy and free, available Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., at the Alumni Foundation Event Center, next door to the Student Health Center. Vaccination and booster shots are also free and available at the Alumni Foundation Event Center and the Student Health Center Pharmacy. Sign up for yours today if you are not yet fully vaccinated and boosted!

  • Masking. Last week’s message letting campus know that high-grade KN95 masks are available in buildings across campus drew an exceptionally strong response. Don’t go into the fight against COVID with weak armor – get your KN95 masks from your building representative today, and make sure you’re properly protected against aerosol spread of the virus.
  • Leading on COVID. The Greensboro News & Record published a feature this week detailing A&T’s success in fighting COVID, attributing our progress to our “robust testing program.” Click here to read more about how A&T and other higher education campuses in the Piedmont Triad are meeting the many challenges of the COVID pandemic.
  • At-Home Testing. Board-certified physician Dr. Veita Bland, whose “It’s a Matter of Your Health” airs Wednesdays at 5:30 p.m. on N.C. A&T’s WNAA 90.1 FM radio, makes the case for keeping multiple coronavirus antigen (rapid-response) tests on hand at home for personal use. Read her column on the Carolina Peacemaker site.

Keep doing what you’re doing to keep yourself and our community protected, safe and healthy during the COVID-19 pandemic. It matters!
