Direct Patient Care Hours and Volunteer Hours

  • Each applicant MUST document and submit a minimum of 1,000 Direct Hands-on Patient Care Hours. In addition to direct patient care hours applicants are encourage submit 500 hours of volunteer service in a medically underserved community. Preference is given to service within the continental United States.

These are examples of Direct Patient Care experiences in a healthcare setting. They include but, are not limited to:

  • Phlebotomist
  • EMT/Paramedic
  • Medical Scribe
  • RN/LPN
  • PT/PTA or OT/OTA
  • Military medical corpsman or Med Tech
  • CNA
  • CMA (back-office responsibilities only)
  • X-ray technician
  • Medical Dietician
  • EKG Technician
  • Electrophysiology Technician
  • *Shadowing experience is highly recommended but, NOT required

*ALL hours MUST be earned before submission of the CASPA application

** All volunteer hours are subject to verification- verification form will be provided
