Building Health Equity Through Data and Community
Overview
The Health Equity Data Consortium (HEDC) is a North Carolina-based collaborative network committed to eliminating health disparities through the power of data, equity, and community-driven action. Led by a Hub at North Carolina A&T State University. The Consortium brings together five proud Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) — Elizabeth City State University, Shaw University, Winston-Salem State University, and Fayetteville State University — united by a shared mission to build healthier, more equitable communities across the state.
Mission
The HBCU Health Equity Data Consortium advances health equity by harnessing the collaborative strength of HBCU member institutions to collect and analyze community health data, build research capacity, and engage directly with underserved populations. Through culturally competent research, community partnerships, and targeted education, we work to eliminate health disparities, strengthen access to care, and empower the communities we serve.
Vision
A future where historically marginalized communities across North Carolina and beyond experience equitable health outcomes, supported by a network of HBCU institutions leading transformative, data-driven research and serving as trusted centers of public health excellence.
