License Plate Recognition (LPR)
Virtual Parking Permits
Effective July 1, 2021 a hanging tag will not be needed to park on surface lots of campus. Permits will be required still; however, permission to park will be virtual and verified through license plate recognition (LPR).
Here's how it works:
- License Plate Recognition (LPR) is a digital system that provides virtual permits through a vehicle’s license plate instead of a physical printed permit.
- When purchasing your virtual permit, you will register your vehicle plate information into the online parking system, which the LPR will generate into a virtual license plate recognized through the parking database.
- When a vehicle parks on campus, you must have the rear license plate showing. No pull-thru or back-in parking allowed. The back license plate will be capture by cameras mounted on enforcement vehicles and scanned like a barcode. When read, the numbers on your plate are automatically referenced against the parking database to verify a valid permit and corresponding parking lot privileges.
- Upon registering and purchasing your permit, your vehicle information is immediately entered into the database, allowing you to park on campus (with lot privileges) without waiting for mail delivery of a printed permit.
- All parking lot privileges remain the same as printed permits and are based on your purchased virtual permit type (student, faculty & staff, etc.)
- LPR eliminates the need for printed permits and decals, which provides quicker means for parking on campus, reduces paper and plastic waste created by printing and mail delivery.
