Counselor Education & Supervision

The Doctoral Program in Counselor Education & Supervision is designed to prepare culturally competent students to work as counselor educators, researchers, clinicians, and supervisors in academic and non-academic settings. In addition to establishing a core foundation in counselor education and supervision, major emphasis is provided in the areas of research and cultural humility. The primary educational objectives of the program are: a) to increase students’ knowledge of the role and functions of counselor educators, researchers, and scholars b) to equip students with unique counseling and research skills to provide effective counseling, supervision, leadership, teaching, and research within a cultural context, c) to prepare students to obtain specialty content knowledge consistent with the mission of the university, d) to equip students with knowledge, skills, and experiences to increase the body of research addressing cultural humility and cultural responsiveness and, e) to prepare students to address professional issues and become leaders and researchers in counselor education research through professional associations, publications, and professional development.
