The Student Honors Convocation at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University is an annual event that celebrates undergraduate students who have demonstrated exceptional academic achievements. The ceremony includes the presentation of two prestigious awards:

The University Award for Academic Excellence: This honor is awarded to a senior undergraduate student with a perfect 4.00 GPA, recognizing their integration of academic excellence with leadership, community service, arts, athletics, and career achievements.

The Chancellor’s Award for Academic Excellence: This award honors an undergraduate student with a minimum 3.75 GPA who has demonstrated academic excellence alongside leadership, community service, arts, athletics, and career achievements.
The convocation also acknowledges students with GPAs of 3.25 and higher, highlighting their dedication and hard work.
Keynote Speaker: Ulysses J. Cozart, Jr. ’77
Ulysses J. (U.J.) Cozart Jr. ’77 is a proud alumnus of North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University whose life and career exemplify academic discipline, professional excellence, and sustained commitment to service. A Greensboro native, Cozart earned his B.S. in business administration from what is now the Willie A. Deese College of Business and Economics before embarking on a distinguished 38‑year professional career. He later earned a M.S. in higher education, reinforcing his lifelong belief in the transformative power of learning.
Cozart’s career spanned corporate, government and entrepreneurial sectors. He held leadership and consulting roles with General Motors Corporation, Mitsubishi Motor Sales of America, and the Small Business Technology Development Center, with assignments across the United States. In addition, he founded FosCo Resources, providing financial management and property investment consulting.
A dedicated Aggie for more than three decades, Cozart has served extensively in volunteer and leadership roles with the N.C. A&T Alumni Association, including chapter president, regional director, national officer, and Board of Visitors chair. He has been instrumental in alumni engagement, student recruitment, chapter development, and philanthropic initiatives benefiting the university.
Now retired from corporate and government service, Cozart works alongside his wife, Monica, in their investment properties business. He remains actively engaged in civic, faith-based, and youth-serving organizations and continues to champion N.C. A&T’s mission through service, stewardship, and mentorship.
