Testing for Coronavirus

On Campus Testing

Coronavirus testing is available on campus through the Student Health Center. Anyone who has been directed by health center staff, by the person’s primary care physician or by some other public health or medical authority to be tested should call the center at (336) 334-7880 to schedule a test. Do not go to the center for testing without first calling.

The center is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Management of Positive Results

Test results are typically available two to three days after the test has been administered. During the waiting period, students are required to self quarantine. Student Health Center staff will contact the patient by telephone and/or e-mail to share the test results.

Students

Students who test positive for the virus are required to quarantine for 14 days, typically the length of time that an individual is contagious to transmit the virus to others.

Students living in on-campus housing will be required to move to special housing reserved for coronavirus patients to minimize spread of the virus in residence halls. During the quarantine period, such students will not be allowed to attend in-person classes or go to A&T dining facilities. Meals and other necessities will be brought to quarantined students.

Students who live off campus will be required to quarantine at their residence for 14 days. During this period, they are required to remain off campus. If the student is ill or continues to manifest coronavirus symptoms, a further period of isolation and additional medical treatment may be required. Students may recieve additional direction for treatment and further isolation from the Student Health Center staff.

Employees

Faculty or staff members who test positive will also be required to quarantine for 14 days. During the quarantine, those employees are not permitted to be on campus. If the employee is ill or continues to manifest coronavirus symptoms, a further period of isolation and additional medical treatment may be required. Such employees are strongly encouraged to follow the direction of their physicians.
