Rev. Jesse Louis Jackson Sr. Day
of Service is a university-wide observance that calls on Aggie Nation to honor the legacy of a distinguished alumnus of North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University through meaningful acts of service, civic engagement, and community uplift. Proclaimed by Chancellor James R. Martin II for Thursday, April 23, 2026, during National Volunteer Month, this Day of Service recognizes Rev. Jackson’s profound impact and lifelong commitment to advancing human dignity, opportunity, and justice for underserved communities. His leadership and advocacy have inspired generations to believe in the power of moral courage and collective action. This observance invites alumni, students, faculty, professional staff, university boards, and affiliated entities to engage in reflection, learning, and service projects that embody the values of leadership, faith, resilience, and social responsibility that define both Rev. Jackson’s legacy and the Aggie tradition.

Cincinnati Alumni Chapter: Cincinnati Aggies Vote  

Location: Kroger Woodlawn 

Time: 10 a.m.-1 p.m. 

The Cincinnati Aggies will support local residents by assisting with voter registration, checking registration status, and helping individuals find their correct polling locations. Through these efforts, they aim to increase voter participation and promote civic engagement in the community. 

 

Houston Alumni Chapter 

Location: Houston Food Bank 

Time: 1-4 p.m. 

Alumni and guests will spend a few hours volunteering at the Houston Food Bank, assisting with sorting, organizing, and packaging food donations for distribution. This hands-on service helps ensure that food resources are efficiently prepared and delivered to families facing food insecurity in the Houston community. 

 

Queen City Alumni Chapter 

Location: Care Ring 

Time: 1:45-4:45 p.m.  

Care Ring is an official food pantry partner of Nourish Up (formerly Loaves & Fishes and Friendship Trays), providing patients and community members with up to one week’s supply of free groceries, including fresh fruits, vegetables, dairy, and meats. Individuals can select items based on their needs, with support from volunteers. 

 

Queen City Alumni Chapter 

Location: NC Diaper Bank 

Time: 9-11 a.m. 

Volunteers will assist by wrapping and preparing all products for distribution within the community. Their efforts will help streamline inventory, reduce storage needs for partner organizations, and ensure items are clean, consistent, and ready for immediate use. By packaging items in a standardized way, volunteers also help promote fairness and equity, ensuring that individuals and families in need receive equal portions and quality support. 

 

Northern Delaware Alumni Chapter 

Location: Food Bank of Delaware, Inc. 

Time: 4-5 p.m. 

Food donations will be collected from April 6 through April 22, providing an opportunity for individuals and groups to contribute non-perishable items in support of those in need.  All collected items will then be transported to the Food Bank for distribution to the community on April 23.  

 

Northern Virginia Alumni Chapter 

Location: N.C. A&T Aggie Source 

Time: 11-11:15 a.m.  

Prior to the day of service, the chapter will collect monetary donations and business attire for the Aggie Source Food Pantry and Professional Clothing Rack. Contributions will be delivered on April 23 to support food security and provide students with professional clothing for interviews and career opportunities.
