Bio

TJ Exford, Ph.D., is an Assistant Professor of Exercise Science in the Department of Kinesiology at North Carolina A&T State University. Dr. Exford's research examines stress and exercise lifestyle management interventions on chronic diseases and related cardiovascular pathology. Specifically, Dr. Exford explores the effects of a culturally tailored Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (CMBSR) and exercise intervention on hypertension as a primary and secondary prevention strategy in minorities burdened with health disparities. Dr. Exford's research examines the impact of a culturally responsive stress management and exercise intervention on perceived stress, blood pressure, and physiological biomarkers (cortisol, c-reactive protein (CRP), Interleukin 6 (IL-6) in African Americans.
