Bio
Dr. Arwin D. Smallwood is Professor and Chair of the Department of History and Political Science at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University in Greensboro. He received his BA in Political Science in 1988 and his MA in History in 1990 from North Carolina Central University. He received his Ph.D. in early U.S and African-American history from The Ohio State University in 1997. Dr. Smallwood is a Life member of the American Historical Association, the Southern Historical Association, the Association for the Study of African- American Life and History and the Historical Society of North Carolina. He is the author of several books, articles and archived papers. His research primarily focuses on the relationships between African-Americans, Native-Americans and Europeans in Eastern North Carolina during the Colonial and early Antebellum period. He is the recipient of numerous prestigious awards and fellowships including; the Archie K. Davis Fellowship.

Specialties: Researching and writing on the history of Native Americans, Africans and Europeans in eastern North Carolina and the New World. My fields include: Colonial American, African-American, Native American, Southern and North Carolina History.
