Dowdy Scholars Program

The Lewis and Elizabeth Dowdy Scholars Enrichment Program is the premier undergraduate merit scholarship at North Carolina A&T State University. The program provides a four (4)-year renewable scholarship that includes tuition, related fees, and room and board to incoming freshmen who plan to enroll in the upcoming Fall semester.

This enrichment program invests in students with extraordinary potential to help them become the transformational leaders of their generation. The program is highly competitive, open to all disciplines, and provides access to the best North Carolina A&T has to offer our students.

Why Become a Dowdy Scholar?

The goal of the Dowdy Scholars Enrichment Program is to keep students academically challenged, while building character and fostering leadership skills. The program is designed to allow academically talented students to achieve their full potential through co-curricular programming, academic rigor and mentorship.


To be considered, applicants must meet all the following criteria:

  • Minimum 3.75 cumulative GPA (weighted)
  • Minimum scholastic score 1270 SAT or 27 ACT
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen
  • Admitted to North Carolina A&T State University
  • Must show exceptional characteristics of leadership and service

How to Apply

For consideration of this scholarship, applicants must complete the bullet items below. Prospective freshmen who apply to North Carolina A&T State University and submit a completed Lewis and Elizabeth Dowdy Scholarship application will automatically be considered for the University Honors Program.

  • Step 1: Complete the Undergraduate Admissions Application. Applicants are strongly encouraged to apply no later than November 30.
  • Step 2: Complete the Lewis and Elizabeth Dowdy Scholarship Application. Applicants applying to the University Honors Program are automatically considered for this scholarship if application submitted on or before December 15
  • Step 3: Check your email regularly for next steps and additional information. Selected finalists will be invited to interview as part of our university annual Scholars Day event held in early February.
