Dowdy Scholars Program

The Lewis and Elizabeth Dowdy Scholars Enrichment Program is the premier undergraduate merit scholarship at North Carolina A&T State University created in honor of the university first Chancellor, Dr. Lewis C. Dowdy and his wife Elizabeth. The program provides a four (4)-year renewable scholarship that includes tuition, related fees, and room and board to incoming freshmen who plan to enroll in the upcoming Fall semester.

This enrichment program invests in students with extraordinary potential to help them become the transformational leaders of their generation. The program is highly competitive, open to all disciplines, and provides access to the best North Carolina A&T has to offer our students.

Why Become a Dowdy Scholar?

The goal of the Dowdy Scholars Enrichment Program is to keep students academically challenged, while building character and fostering leadership skills. The program is designed to allow academically talented students to achieve their full potential through co-curricular programming, academic rigor and mentorship.

Eligibility

To be considered, applicants must meet all the following criteria:

  • Minimum 3.75 cumulative GPA (weighted)
  • Minimum scholastic score 1270 SAT or 27 ACT (test optional for Fall 2021 applicants)
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen
  • Admitted to North Carolina A&T State University
  • Must show exceptional characteristics of leadership and service

How to Apply

For consideration of this scholarship, applicants must meet the eligibility criteria above and also be nominated by a high school official or submit a self nomination form. Please refer to the important dates calendar below for additional guidance and next steps.

September 15 – November 1, 2020

Nomination form available online for school endorsed and self-nominations.

October 15, 2020

Early action date to apply for Undergraduate Admissions.

December 1, 2020

Deadline to submit scholarship application form with all supplemental materials including letters of recommendation.

December 11, 2020

Semi-finalists are selected and all other applicants are notified of their status.

January 15, 2021

Finalists are selected and all other candidates are notified of their status.

February 5-6, 2021

Finalists Interview Weekend

Early March 2021

Recipients are selected and all other candidates are notified of their status.

April 15, 2021

Deadline for recipients to accept scholarship award offer.

Note: Applicants submitting a nomination form and scholarship application will automatically be considered for the University Honors Program. A separate application will not be required.
