Darrell McLean
Appointed in 2025 by the N.C. Legislature; term ends 2029
McLean is a retired Caswell County, North Carolina Chief Deputy and is currently serving as the Mayor Pro Tem of the Town of Yanceyville. He represents the Town of Yanceyville as a member of both the Caswell Juvenile Crime Prevention Council and the Caswell County Partnership for Children.
McLean graduated from the Danville, Virginia’s George Washington High School during June of 1984. He is a 1984 graduate of the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music and earned a Bachelors’ degree in the field of Music Education. Mclean has experience as a Music Educator teaching Elementary, Junior High and High School Band and Orchestra in the Cincinnati Public School System. He relocated to Danville, Virginia during the summer of 1993 and decided forgo a career in education and sought employment in law enforcement.
During August of 1993, he was hired by the Caswell County Sheriffs’ Office and was encouraged to attend a School Resource Officer training course that was offered by the NC Criminal Justice Academy during the summer of 1994. Working as a SRO, McLean enjoyed the interaction with High School students and eventually began a Huskins Bill Instructor of Criminal Justice Technology. A friend encouraged him to apply for admission to the NC A&T University Graduate School of Education. McLean graduated during December of 2006 earning a Masters of Science in Adult Education. The time that he spent attending classes at NC A&T State was a great experience and the motivation for his desire to apply for appointment as a member of the NC A&T Board of Trustees.
