2020 - 2021

No on-site, in-person visits happened due to COVID-19. However, virtual tours were conducted when possible, including:

  • Turner-Fairbank Highway Research Center 
  • Charlotte Light Rail Command Center
  • Virginia Smart Roads - Virginia Tech Transportation Institute 
  • Artificial Intelligence in Unmanned Systems Lab Tour - Embry Riddle Aeronautical University

 

2019

  • Students toured an NCDOT Highway Construction Site - Greensboro Urban Loop – Western Loop on July 30. 
  • Students visited Port Operations Deep Sea Freight Transportation Marine Cargo Handling, Intermodal Operations at the Port of Wilmington in Wilmington, NC and an NCDOT ferry on July 26-27.
  • Students toured the Turner-Fairbank Highway Research Center in McLean, VA, and the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority Emergency Response Training Center in Washington, D.C. on July 18.
  • Students toured the Smart Roads testing facilities at Virginia Tech Transportation Institute in Blacksburg, VA on July 17. 
  • Students visited the Aggies Autonomous Auto (A3) Lab in Greensboro, NC on July 10.
  • Students went to Duke University Humans and Autonomy Lab in Durham, NC on July 9.
  • Students visited the Charlotte Light Rail Command Center, in Charlotte, NC on July 5.
  • Students toured the Piedmont Triad International Airport in Greensboro, NC on July 2.
  • Students visited the Greensboro Transit Authority in Greensboro, NC on June 27.

 

2018

  • Students visited N.C. A&T Sustainable Infrastructure Materials Laboratory in Greensboro, NC on July 31.
  • Students toured the Turner-Fairbank Highway Research Center in McLean, VA, and the Safe Transportation Infrastructure, Improving Safety and Communications - Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority Metro Control Center in Washington, D.C. on July 26.
  • Students visited the Marine Cargo Handling, Transportation Logistics - Military Sealift Command Atlantic, Naval Station in Norfolk, VA on July 25.
  • Students went to the NCDOT Port Division in Wilmington, NC, and Water Transportation Services - NCDOT Ferry Division, Fort Fisher to Southport, in Southport, NC, on July 20-21.
  • Students visited Truck Operations – Southeastern Freight Lines Civil Engineering, Highway Design, Traffic Flow NCDOT Highway Construction Site in Greensboro, NC on July 17.
  • Students went to the Piedmont Triad International Airport in Greensboro, NC on July 11.
  • Students visited Piedmont Area Regional Transportation Intermodal Container Port Group in Greensboro, NC on July 10.
  • Students toured the Charlotte Light Rail Command Center and Railroad Transportation, Truck Operations, Transportation Logistics Norfolk Southern Intermodal Facility in Charlotte NC on July 6.
  • Students went to the Greensboro Transit Authority facilities in Greensboro, N.C. on July 2.

 

 2017

  • Students toured the Piedmont Triad International Airport in Greensboro, NC on July 27.
  • Students visited Marine Cargo Handling - NCDOT Port Division in Wilmington, NC, and the NCDOT Ferry Division, Fort Fisher to Southport, in Southport, NC on July 23.
  • Students toured an NCDOT Highway Construction Site in Greensboro, NC on July 18.
  • Students went to the Human-Centered Systems Laboratories at Turner-Fairbank Highway Research Center in McLean, VA, and the Safe Transportation Infrastructure, Improving Safety and Communications at the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority Metro Control Center in Washington, D.C. on July 13.
  • Students visited the Marine Cargo Handling, Transportation Logistics - Military Sealift Command Atlantic, Naval Station USNC William McLean T-AKE-12 Combat Logistics Force Ship in Norfolk, VA on July 12.
  • Students toured Railroad Transportation, Truck Operations, Transportation Logistics – Norfolk Southern Intermodal Facility in Charlotte, NC on July 7.
  • Students visited the Greensboro Transit Authority in Greensboro, NC on July 4.
  • In November, ten Southeastern Transportation Center award recipients traveled to Gainesville, Florida to attend the Southeastern Transportation Research, Innovation, Development and Education Center conference at the University of Florida's Transportation Institute. While there, the group toured the Dollar General Distribution Center in Alachua, Florida.
