The University of the District of Columbia’s (UDC) Office of University Research invites leadership, faculty, and staff from the nation’s HBCUs to listen in on a presentation from  Sethuraman Panchanathan, Ph.D., director of the National Science Foundation (NSF), followed by a discussion with Victor McCrary, Ph.D.,  vice president for Research and Graduate Programs, professor of Chemistry at UDC and vice chair of the National Science Board.

Presentation Summary | For more than 70 years, NSF has been powering discovery and innovation across the entire range of fundamental science and engineering research. As NSF’s 15th director, Dr. Sethuraman Panchanathan sees extraordinary opportunities ahead for the research community to build on that legacy. The framework for seeding bold, large-scale innovative research with meaningful societal impact is part of the DNA of NSF. The priority for the research community going forward must be to create pathways into science and engineering for underrepresented communities. NSF is committed to equity across all areas of science, technology, and engineering. By leveraging the tremendous STEM talent throughout the nation, bolstering partnerships, and supercharging the synergy between “curiosity-driven, discovery-based exploratory research” and “use-inspired, solutions-focused, translational research," NSF will help unleash transformative breakthroughs into the future.
