What is the Woodland Ellroy Hall Fellowship?
The Woodland Ellroy Hall Fellowship is an academic merit-based fellowship program at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University for master's and doctoral students who are committed to excellence in scholarship, professional capabilities, and leadership in a research university setting.
The Fellowship is named in honor of Woodland Ellroy Hall (1909-2004), the first student to earn a graduate degree from North Carolina A&T State University in 1941. Hall, a native Virginian, earned a bachelor’s degree in agriculture from the University of Maryland Eastern Shore, a master’s degree in agricultural education at North Carolina A&T, and a second master’s at Columbia University. His Master's thesis at NC A&T was entitled "A Study of the Needs In Vocational Agricultural Education of Negroes In Gates County, North Carolina." Hall also did doctoral work at Pennsylvania State University. Hall served as a principal in Manteo, Burlington and Dunn, NC. The State of North Carolina honors the legacy of Woodland Ellroy Hall’s exemplary service and leadership through this scholarship program.
