Sanjiv Sarin

Sanjiv Sarin is the Vice Provost for Research, Graduate Programs and Extended Learning and Dean, Graduate School at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University.  He is a tenured professor of industrial and systems engineering.  Prior to his current appointment, he was the Associate Dean for the College of Engineering. 

Dr. Sarin’s teaching and research interests are in discrete optimization, collaborative logistics planning, and quality assurance.  He has also been active in educational research focusing primarily on outcomes assessment and collaboration among faculty in improving educational quality.  He has authored or co-authored over fifty peer reviewed articles and has participated in over thirty research and academic program development grants valued at over $8 million with funding from NASA, NSF, DoED, NHTSA, DOE. 

Dr. Sarin received a Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering and a Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering with Industrial Engineering concentration from IIT Delhi and a Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering from the State University of New York, Buffalo.  He is a senior member of the Institute of Industrial Engineers and a registered Professional Engineer in North Carolina.  He also serves as an ABET and SACS evaluator.  He was inducted into several honor societies including Omega Rho, Sigma Xi, Tau Beta Pi, Phi Kappa Phi and the Order of the Engineer.  He has received several awards including the outstanding advising award from the student chapter of the IIE, the teaching excellence award from the college of engineering, and the university’s outstanding administrator award. 

Dr. Sarin has been engaged in a variety of professional activities involving international programs and collaborations with international institutions.  He has been instrumental in the development of several collaborative agreements with institutions in China, Ghana, India, Vietnam and Brazil.
