TOP 10 General Best Practices for Master’s Level Students

The below top 10 practices are our suggestions for productive matriculation throughout your Master’s degree at NCAT: 

  1. Upon arrival on campus, meet with the Department Chair, Graduate Coordinator and your advisor(in some cases your Graduate Coordinator is your advisor). Make sure this advisor is affiliated and assigned by your Department.
  2.  Review curriculum and prepare course schedule for first term, obtain approval from your graduate coordinator or advisor.
  3. If applicable, complete all prerequisite/foundation courses) as soon as possible.
  4. Consult with advisor to complete a Plan of Study. It must be approved by the Graduate Coordinator by the end of your second semester. Submit Plan of Study to the Graduate College by second semester.
  5. Consult with advisor to select thesis/project committee, if applicable.
  6. Consult with your advisor to schedule field work/practicum/internship that needs to be completed, if applicable.
  7. Schedule regular one-on-one meetings with your advisor at a frequency mutual agreed upon.
  8. In the semester you intend to graduate, complete your application for graduation via Aggie Access. (This deadline is typically in the beginning of the semester. Please see academic calendar the semester before for deadline.)
  9. Ensure approved Final Degree Clearance Form is completed by Academic Department Chairperson.
  10. Ensure all tuition and fees are paid.
