The Lyceum Series at N.C. A&T to Present the Dance Theatre of Harlem

GREENSBORO, N.C. (Feb. 12, 2018) – The Lyceum Series at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University will present the famed Dance Theatre of Harlem at 7 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 21, in Harrison Auditorium.

Approaching its 50th anniversary, the Dance Theatre of Harlem is a leading dance institution of distinction. The dance school was founded in 1969 in a garage on 152nd Street in Harlem, New York, by Arthur Mitchell and Karel Shook in order to train children in the community in the art of dance.

Eager to shape the spirit of dance into the new millennium, the Dance Theatre of Harlem performed to sold-out houses in China, giving the country its first performances of “Firebird.” That same year, the company returned to the esteemed Apollo Theater for the first time in 25 years.

After successful trips to the United Kingdom in 2002 and 2004, the company celebrated its 35-year anniversary with an extensive tour of the U.S. and performances in Greece following the opening of the 2004 Olympic Games.

The Lyceum series at N.C. A&T is dedicated to bringing provocative, culturally diverse programs to the university campus and surrounding community. The series extends curriculum beyond the classroom and delivers a world view of the arts and humanities.
