Capt. Walter R. Stancil Jr. Memorial Scholarship Fund

Walter Ray Stancil Jr. was born Oct. 26, 1974, to Walter Ray and Emma Mitchell Stancil. He was best known as "Walt" to his friends. Walter was called home Feb. 10, 2002. He began his education in the Richmond County School System, graduating in 1993. He then attended Sandhills Community College where he received an associate degree in applied science, manufacturing systems technology. He next attended North Carolina Agricultural & Technical State University, where he studied manufacturing systems.

Walter was a proud Aggie. He graduated in 1997 as a distinguished military graduate and was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the United States Army. He also graduated magna cum laude in manufacturing systems. He was a member of the Golden Key Honor Society, Epsilon Pi Tau Honor Society and the National Society of Pershing Rifles.

The following year he attended the U.S. Army Field Artillery Officer Basic Course at Fort Sill, Oklahoma. Upon graduation, Stancil was assigned to 2nd Battalion, 20th Field Artillery Regiment at Fort Hood, Texas, where he served as platoon leader. After completing the advanced course of field artillery in 2001, Stancil was assigned to Fort Bragg for his second tour. There he was a liaison officer for 3rd Battalion, 321st Field Artillery Regiment.

• Students with a GPA of 2.5 or higher (a GPA of 2.5 must be maintained for renewal)
• Students studying in the School of Technology
• Students from the State of North Carolina
• Preference will be given to graduates of community colleges
