Dr. Judy Wellington Rashid Scholarship Fund

Dr. Judy Wellington Rashid graduated from Ralph L. Fike High School in Wilson, North Carolina, and received her Bachelor of Science in psychology and master’s degree in educational media, both summa cum laude, from North Carolina A&T State University. She received her doctorate in higher education administration from North Carolina State University in Raleigh, North Carolina.

Dr. Rashid was a teacher and principal for 15 years after graduating from N.C. A&T. For 25 years, she served as student affairs professional and retired as associate vice chancellor for student affairs/dean of students. She also served as adjunct faculty in the departments of Leadership Studies and Liberal Studies. She was most proud of developing and teaching the first credited course in conflict resolution, a field to which she had dedicated her research and service including conflict resolution in South Africa.

Dr. Rashid’s career as an educator personifies that one must care enough to share. She strongly believed much is given, and much is required. As a result, one must always demonstrate continuous acts of commitment to this principle.

Dr. Judy Wellington Rashid Scholarship Fund

Inspired by what Dr. Rashid referred to as her “humble beginnings” in Wilson, North Carolina, the Dr. Judy Wellington Rashid Scholarship Fund will support students from Wilson, North Carolina, who demonstrate financial hardship and a commitment to their educational future. Scholarship awards will be made on the following criteria:

• Newly admitted student from Wilson, North Carolina, to North Carolina A&T State University as a full-time undergraduate student with a declared major in education, psychology or sociology/social work.

• High School GPA of 2.5 or above (cumulative)

• Demonstration of a hardship and need financial support

• A one-page essay explaining future goals and reason why applicant should be chosen for this scholarship
