Dr. Edna Johnson Ragins Scholarship Fund

Dr. Edna Johnson Ragins, associate professor and chair of the Department of Marketing, Transportation and Supply Chain Management at North Carolina Agricultural & Technical State University, died May 9, 2011, at her home in Greensboro, North Carolina, after a serious illness.

Dr. Ragins, who was very active in her church and community affairs, began teaching at the North Carolina A&T School of Business in 1990. Prior to her career at N.C. A&T, Dr. Ragins was on the faculty at Bowie State University, in Bowie, Maryland. Immediately after graduate school, she was a financial analyst with Ford Motor Co. in Dearborn, Michigan.

Dr. Ragins' students felt she was an effective educator who mastered the art of encouraging class participation while maintaining a very well organized lesson. She was extremely committed and involved in community activities. Dr. Ragins was loved by all who knew her, and her zest for life was as infectious as her quick wit and joyous laughter. She has a wide circle of loving, devoted friends.

Dr. Ragins was born on the campus of Prairie View State University where her father began his teaching career. She is survived by her loving family which includes her father, two sisters, two nieces, two nephews, great-nephew and great-niece, numerous cousins and a host of other relatives.

The Edna Johnson Ragins Scholarship Fund Criteria

The scholarship from the Edna Johnson Ragins Scholarship Fund will be awarded to deserving students as determined by the University Scholarship Committee. Scholarship awards will be made based on the following criteria:
• Admission to North Carolina A&T State University and enrollment as a full-time undergraduate student
• Maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA
• Must provide evidence of service to a school, church, community or within the university
• Applicants chosen must demonstrate a hardship and need financial support for retention in school
